Kindergarten MaTh (Math activity Thursday)--Sorting and counting

Today I'm focusing on K.MD.B.3  which states Classify objects into given categories; count the numbers of objects in each category and sort the categories by count.  You can link up with any Kindergarten post you've posted in the past or make one in the next couple of days to add your link.

Kids Math Teacher Math activity Thursday--Kindergarten
Here's a fun activity for sorting and counting.

Bring items to class or take pictures of some objects that have two or three obvious categories.

The children sort the objects into categories they see.  In my example they might write or say: cars, road signs, and cookies.
Then they count how many objects are in each category.  2 cars, 4 roads signs, 2 cookies.

That's it.  I think it would be really fun to have a lot of various pictures for the kids so they could practice with lots of different objects and with different quantities.

Here is another example that might have different category choices even with the same picture.

It could be considered 6 circle things and 7 square things OR 4 circle foods, 7 crackers, & 2 plates OR they might just notice 11 foods and 2 plates.

There are probably more ways too!

Is there anyone who thinks they would buy a pack of 50 pictures similar to this for their classroom?
