This is June so we are still focusing on 5th Grade for MaTh activity Thursday : )
I was looking at CCSS 5.NBT.B.6 the other day. It reads: Find whole-number quotients of whole numbers with up to four-digit dividends and two-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.
It basically means that students can do long division and be able to understand the concept and what is happening instead of just doing the typical format. Do your students make arrays or area models when doing this?
