Missed yesterday, but linking with Tried it Tuesday

So, I missed my Monday post.  It turns out, it's hard to write the first day of the week!

Anyway, I'm linking up with Fourth Grade Flipper for her weekly linky
I feel like I have been trying a whole bunch of things lately, but not all of them are working.  I guess if you never try, then you would never find out if it works or not, though.

So, I went to an SCBWI working writers retreat this past weekend for my math-related picture books I've written.  At this event I paid a pretty penny to get live critiques from two editors, one agent, and two successful authors.  This wasn't my first time there (my third time going, actually) and every year I forget how much of an emotional roller coaster it is to have your hard work put out for people to see and have it get comments ranging from "I like it." to "It's too confusing." to "I only like this part." to "I think it needs a theme." to "It should be simpler." and so on.

I know in the end all the comments will help me make my manuscripts better and more polished, but it is so difficult to hear what peoples different opinions are all in two days.

This is what I've tried.

  • I've been part of various critique groups.
  • I read all the books I can about writing picture books.
  • I read lots of picture books.
  • I keep submitting to different agents and editors, because it only takes one yes.
  • I revise and revise and revise according to what I feel is best.
and for many of my manuscripts I have paginated them, made dummies, and read them to my kids classrooms : )

Anyway, I now wonder this with all my work on my place value book.  Since I majorly changed the story but I still have this cool dummy from the first version, should I sell the dummy on TpT and TN for teachers to use now and eventually wait for the revised book to get published someday?

I'd love to hear what you think.
