For this week, I had an activity to do with little ones--ages 4-7.
Seeing Shapes
Have your child help you take a photo of an area in your house or wherever you are... like these
- How many circles are there?
- How many rectangles?
- How many squares?
If you wanted you could even print out your picture and have them draw a line around the shapes as they count them.
For children 6 and 7 they might even be able to do a 3D shape scavenger hunt finding spheres, rectangular prisms, cubes, cylinders, and pyramids.

Thanks for Throwback Thursday that helped me think of today's MaTh activity Thursday! I had done this rectangle post in the past and a few people said they really enjoyed it. It is more geared toward 3rd through 5th graders. Thank you Cara for hosting a fun linky party!

A rectangle is one of my favorite shapes--probably because they are everywhere!
- Draw a rectangle on graph paper.
- How many other shapes can you draw inside it? A square, more rectangles, triangles, circles.
- What is the area inside the rectangle?
- What is the perimeter measurement.
- Go into one room in your house.
- Estimate how many rectangles are in the room.
- Write or draw on a piece of paper how many things in the room are made of rectangles. (For example a bookcase--and how many rectangles does it have in it--the shelves and the books)
- Is the room a rectangle? Can you find the area of the room?
Can you find 20 rectangles around you in 30 seconds or less? Hint: you're already staring at one reading this.
